How to Reduce Risk of an Episode
Many people begin to feel better after a few weeks of treatment. But even if you're feeling well, you could still have an episode or relapse (a return of symptoms). Frequent relapses may make your illness worse and make it harder for you to stay well.
You can reduce the risk of relapse by:
- Taking your medicine as directed
- Visiting your healthcare professional regularly
- Keeping track of your symptoms
- Telling a treatment team member immediately if your symptoms get worse
- Learning relaxation, stress management and coping skills and applying them to your everyday life
- Finding support from others with bipolar disorder, whether through a local group or an online community.
As you continue with treatment, stay focused on improvement.
