Prescribing SYMBYAX
SYMBYAX (olanzapine/fluoxetine HCl) is the only antidepressant approved by the FDA for bipolar depression. In preclinical studies, SYMBYAX increased all three neurotransmitters that are important in the treatment of bipolar depression: serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine.1

SYMBYAX is a powerful bipolar depression treatment in one pill that is:
Effective: Improves symptoms as early as week 1

†Treatment arm numbers as of week 1.
Improvement in Montgomery–Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) Total Score for the SYMBYAX group was statistically greater than placebo at weeks 1, 3, 4, 6, and 8 in pooled studies.1
Individual study results: In one study, SYMBYAX was superior to placebo at weeks 1, 4, 6, and 8; in the other study, SYMBYAX was superior to placebo at every visit.
Results were calculated on the basis of a visitwise LOCF‡ analysis of mean improvement from baseline in MADRS Total Scores. These data do not imply specific onset of action in individual patients.
Olanzapine is not approved for the treatment of bipolar depression.

Simple for Clinician and Patient
- A powerful treatment for bipolar depression in one pill
- Therapeutic dose can be used from day 1 - no titration necessary
- Requires a single copay under most healthcare plans
- Available in four convenient dosage options:
5 mg/25 mg, 6 mg/50 mg, 12 mg/25 mg, and 12 mg/50 mg
(3 mg/25 mg olanzapine/fluoxetine HCl capsules) - Only antidepressant approved by the FDA for bipolar depression
Reliable Safety
Overall, the SYMBYAX (olanzapine/fluoxetine HCl) safety profile is similar to that of its individual components. SYMBYAX patients had no statistically greater risk of treatment-emergent mania than patients taking placebo. In patients with bipolar depression, a manic episode is a potential consequence of treatment with a conventional antidepressant alone. Because of the cyclical nature of bipolar disorder, patients should be monitored closely for the development of symptoms of mania/hypomania during treatment with SYMBYAX.
